A CAREER change has meant that Amity Pope can now let her creativity run wild.

She first completed a Diploma of Nursing at South West TAFE and worked in the nursing field before finding her passion in the beauty industry.

“I still love nursing and looking after people. I love dealing with people but I’m a creative person and I’m having a lot of fun with it,” she said.

At the suggestion of a friend, Amity attended one of South West TAFE’s open days and signed up for the Diploma of Beauty Therapy on the day.

She is now working at the Port Fairy Day Spa where she spends her days pampering her clients with massages, facials and manicures.

“I’m loving what I’m doing and I’m getting great experience. There are so many options and this could take you anywhere. I’ve even thought about working in beauty in the travel industry - in salons on a cruise ship.

“There’s just so much you can do. I especially like the idea of massage and the holistic approach,” she said.

Amity said beauty therapy was something she had wanted to do for a long time but ended up choosing nursing straight after finishing school.

“Beauty therapy wasn’t something I was really into as a little girl. It’s an interest that’s grown as I’ve grown.

“I love talking to people and looking after people and I’m so happy how it’s worked out,” she said.
