Student Support

As a South West TAFE student, you can access a variety of support services that will enhance your study experience and help you complete your studies successfully. For more information about any of these services drop into the student hub at the Warrnambool campus or call 1300 648 911.

Health services

Headspace Warrnambool provides a free bulk billed GP service at our Warrnambool (incl. Sherwood Park) campus for all students and staff.  The following GP Services are available:

  • physical health issues and injury worries
  • vaccinations
  • work ready health checks
  • nutritional advice
  • mental health concerns
  • sexual health screening and counselling
  • pregnancy testing and emergency contraception
  • antenatal care

Student wellbeing

Our student wellbeing team works to ease factors that affect the personal, social, educational, and employment achievements of young students enrolled with SWTAFE.
Support for students includes:

  • Assisting students who are experiencing difficulties to complete their studies.
  • Providing students with advice on and assistance with mental health, legal issues, housing, finances, bullying or any other issue relevant at SWTAFE.
  • Supporting student engagement in classroom activities, assisting where required to identify any issues impeding their academic progress.
  • Acting as a mediator, or advocate on behalf of students to ensure appropriate measures are implemented for students facing disciplinary actions.
  • Offering referral support to external support agencies.

Libraries

Our campus libraries are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, giving you access to physical collections, online databases, 143,000 eBooks and 19,000 online videos. You can also make use of our inviting learning spaces, computers, printing facilities and wifi. Our friendly library staff are ready to help you.

Career guidance and welfare services

The education pathways team services all of our campuses. Current and prospective students can gain information and guidance on specific courses at South West TAFE, as well as information on job seeking, careers, re-training and updating of qualifications. The Education Pathways Officers can also provide assistance with personal issues, study related problems and can provide local information on accommodation and childcare options.

Disability Services

We are committed to providing equal access to opportunities for students with a disability and ensuring that suitable and reasonable adjustments are agreed upon collaboratively. The support provided to students with disabilities at South West TAFE is organised and monitored by Disability Services. Studiosity

Studiosity provides free online advice from expert tutors to assist you with assignment and study questions. Tutors are available from 3pm to midnight, Sunday-Friday. A 24/7 essay review service operates year round. You can access Studiosity by logging into South West TAFE Online.

Koorie Support

We believe in working with people from all walks of life in the indigenous community. Our Koorie Liaison Officers work with parents who support children in kindergarten, elders in the community, and all ages in between to support the educational and training aspirations of all indigenous community members.

Apprenticeship Support

Our Apprenticeship Support Officer provides free and confidential advice and assistance with work, training or personal issues. We also provide specialised support for apprentices who find themselves out of work, to keep them on track and help them complete their apprenticeships.
