Combining school and TAFE was the ideal mix for Luke

/ Success Story
The opportunity to combine secondary school and study at SWTAFE is helping Luke Pickering towards his goal of working in the agriculture industry.
Luke Pickering studied an Agriculture VET DSS course at South West TAFE.

“I grew up on a family cattle and cropping farm and wanted to learn more about the agriculture industry.

“When I found that I could combine school and study at SWTAFE I was really excited - I’ve never looked back,” he said.

Nick said he enjoyed the practical work and being outdoors completing tasks with class mates who all had the same interest in agriculture.

“The VET DSS program was great for me. The teachers were supportive and the course has given me so many opportunities for the future. The skills I have learnt will help me in whatever I do,” he said.

Nick said his future career plans were to gain a diesel mechanic apprenticeship. He was also considering working in the mines or on a cattle station in the Northern Territory so he could gain a better understanding of the differences in agriculture across Australia.
