Sophie follows her passion for beauty

/ Success Story
Sophie Harry has combined a TAFE course with secondary school to follow her passion for a career in the beauty industry.
Sophie Harry studied beauty therapy at South West TAFE.

“I had always been interested in beauty therapy so I was so excited to discover I could study at TAFE while still completing secondary school,” she said.

Sophie started with a VET DSS course in salon assistance and then continued on to complete her Certificate III and Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy and has absolutely loved it.

“The courses gave me a good taste of what it would be like to work in the industry and inspired me to continue studying.

“I was able to use my creativity and we learnt to provide beauty services on real clients giving us a good idea of what working in a salon would be like,” she said.

Sophie said the teachers at South West TAFE were great and still spent time working in the industry.

“This means we have a great opportunity to learn from people who have current experience and knowledge,” she said.

As part of her studies, Sophie also had the opportunity to compete in the World Skills competition where she won the regional title and had the chance to compete at a national level.

She is now working at the Warrnambool Wellness Centre performing all beauty services including facials, waxing and tinting. “I love what I do,” she said.
